Do not stress. With this guide (and the video below), you will get it done properly, safely, and without losing your weekend. Whether your ottoman lifts from the foot or side, the process is the same.

What’s in the Box?
Your Funkybedz Ottoman Bed comes with everything you need, including:
- Headboard and footboard
- Two side rails
- Ottoman lift frame
- Gas lift arms
- Mattress retention bar and pull strap
- Centre support bar
- Under-bed storage boards
- Fixings, bolts and gas pistons
- Allen key (included)
- You may also need: screwdriver, spanner and scissors
Step-by-Step Assembly Instructions
Step 1: Unpack and Prepare
Lay everything flat on a soft surface like carpet or a sheet. Check all parts are present.
Step 2: Fit the Feet
Locate the base of the headboard and footboard. Depending on the type of feet you selected, screw or pierce through the pre-marked holes and attach securely.
Step 3: Build the Bed Frame
- Hook the side rails onto the headboard
- Do the same with the footboard
- Tighten all bolts and make sure the frame feels secure
Step 4: Fit the Centre Support Bar
Screw the central support into both side rails. This adds extra strength and stops sagging.
Step 5: Fit the Ottoman Lift Arms
Attach each ottoman lift arm to the inside of the side rails. The hinge mechanism should face the headboard.
Step 6: Fit the Gas Pistons
- Unscrew the bolts on the lift arms
- Insert the gas piston into the hinge arm and re-tighten bolts
- Do the same on both sides
The pistons may feel stiff at first that is normal.
Step 7: Position the Ottoman Frame
Two people are needed for this step.
- Place the ottoman lift frame on top of the gas arms
- Make sure the hinges face downwards
- Use the remaining bolts to fix the frame to the arms
Step 8: Secure the Mechanism
- Attach the two metal locking plates to stop the frame from folding inwards
- Insert Allen key bolts from the top and tighten firmly
Step 9: Install the Mattress Retention Bar and Pull Strap
- Attach the mattress bar at the foot end
- Fix the pull strap using the holes provided underneath the frame
Step 10: Add Under-Bed Storage Panels
- Slide the storage boards into the base area
- These sit neatly inside the bed for a clean, enclosed look
Step 11: Final Checks
- Open and close the ottoman lift a few times
- Check all bolts are tight
- Make sure the motion is smooth and nothing catches
Add your mattress and you are done.
General Tips
- Re-tighten bolts after a few weeks of use
- Lift carefully using the pull strap, not the frame itself
- Never force the lift always guide it up and down gently
- Clean with a damp cloth, avoid harsh chemicals

Around 60 to 90 minutes with two people. It is quicker if you watch the video first and have all tools ready.
Do I need special tools?
No. The bed comes with an Allen key. You may find a screwdriver, spanner, or scissors useful for certain parts.
Are the gas pistons supposed to feel stiff?
Yes. They need strong resistance to safely hold your mattress. They will loosen slightly with use.
Can I lift the bed alone?
While the lift is manageable once built, you will need a second person to help during assembly, especially when positioning the lifting frame.
